Google Adwords and Adsense ~ Two Sides, one Coin
Google's adwords and adsense are the two sides of Googles advertising pay per click
(PPC) advertising programme. These two go together to form an advertising method unknown 30 years ago.
So, how do they work?
It is impossible to discuss and understand one without understanding about the other.
Also, it doesn't work if you leave Google out of the discussion because (a) Google invented it and
(b) Google provides the platform and is the 'traffic cop' directing the proceedings.
Businesses or people who want to advertise in cyberspace via the Internet take out a
pay per click (PPC) Ad with or without a set advertising campaign in place.
Some businesses do a 'one of' PPC Ad (much like advertising in the local classified
section of your local paper) while others plan a twelve month or longer marketing strategy using PPC as the
basis.
These Ads can be readily seen on many websites and always with the
inscription "Ads by Google". Most of us have become so inured and used to seeing these Ads now
that we rarely even notice the logo placed at the bottom right of these Ads.
These PPC ads are written by the advertisers using the keywords that
they want to target that they think/believe/know their customers are typing into the search engines to find their
products, services or information they want to know about. So, what are keywords?
Keywords are those words and phrases that form the foundation of a
searchers request. The thing to understand about the Internet, is that the Internet is all based on
words. Words are the communication language (even if those words are put into a Hyper
Text Mark-up Language known as HTML);
words are the only 'product' used by computers to 'talk' with each other to find the searchers
requests.
This makes these words/phrases the 'key'; they are words that bring up the products,
services or information that a person searching on the internet uses to find what they want~ to unlock the
information requested from the billions of data files stored in data depositories all around the globe.
I know this sounds as if I'm being repetitive but once you fully comprehend the
importance of these words, you will have taken a big step forward in understanding Googles Adwords
and Adsense.
I will explain more about adwords and adsense individually in another two articles
for you, but right now, if you go and get yourself a coin and mark one side of it with tape as Adwords and the
other side with tape and Adsense, you will be able to follow along better. Seeing makes what I am about to describe
to you easier to comprehend.
In brief, here is a mud-map:
Google ~ Is the Maestro and the Stage:
Adwords ~ advertisers pay Google to show their advertiser-generated Ads on content
related or selected websites.
Adsense ~ Website Publishers add the adsense publisher codes to their websites to
show these ads from Google and receive a payment each time one of the visitors to their websites clicks on a Google
Ad.
Now that you can see the symbiotic relationship between all three participants, if
you make Google itself as the edge of the coin dividing the adwords and adsense sides and on which adwords and
adsense both sit; you will soon see how no-one can exist in this format without the other two.
